It’s in all probability not the strangest merchandise ever donated to a Goodwill retailer. But staff of a thrift retailer within the Phoenix space knew precisely what to do once they noticed what appeared like a human cranium in one in all their donation containers: Call police.
Officers responded to the shop in Goodyear on Tuesday evening and took possession of the cranium, which was lined in spots and had its higher entrance tooth hooked up, plus a false eye within the left socket.
Officials with Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona say they adopted firm protocol by instantly reporting the donation to police.
The cranium was transported to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office the place authorities “confirmed that it is in fact a real human skull,” police spokesperson Lisa Berry stated.
“It appears this human skull is historic and has no forensic significance, meaning there appears to be no associated crime,” Berry added of the preliminary findings.
It remains unclear who donated the skull and what would become its final disposition.
Berry said police had no additional information to release about the skull Thursday.
Store staff referred all inquiries concerning the cranium to Goodwill’s company workplace Thursday, however no one instantly returned calls.
