A bomb from World War II has exploded unexpectedly in an English city, with the blast heard from kilometres away.

No one was damage when the 250kg bomb detonated as military specialists tried to defuse it within the city of Great Yarmouth.

Drone footage captured the second the bomb went off on the banks of the Yare River on Friday afternoon, native time.

The bomb was found shut to 2 fuel pipes on Tuesday, and the military was introduced in to disarm it.

The neighbouring streets have been evacuated after the invention, however these residents can now return to their houses, Norfolk Police stated.

“Southtown Road remains closed while necessary checks on damage take place,” Norfolk Police stated in an announcement.
