Vatican announces Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s death, aged 95

The Vatican has introduced the demise of Pope Benedict, aged 95.

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, the German theologian who will probably be remembered as the primary pope in 600 years to resign, died on Saturday at 9.34am native time (7.34pm AEDT).

“With pain I inform that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI died today at 9:34 in the Mater Ecclesia Monastery in the Vatican,” a press release from Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni stated.

“Further information will be released as soon as possible.”
