A two-year-old boy died from a brain-eating amoeba an infection this week, in keeping with the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) and a Facebook submit from the kid’s mom.
According to the DPBH launch, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that Naegleria fowleri, often known as a “brain-eating amoeba”, was the reason for the boy’s sickness and corresponding loss of life.
State investigators imagine the boy may need been uncovered to the amoeba at Ash Springs, a pure scorching spring on federal land in Lincoln County, the discharge stated.
“Naegleria fowleri is a microscopic single-celled living ameba that occurs naturally in the environment” the DPBH launch famous.
“This ameba can cause a very serious rare infection of the brain called primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) that destroys brain tissue and is almost always fatal.”
