Newly elected House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s speech has ranged from thanking his household to referencing a rustic music tune justifying his newfound standing within the wake of a traditionally long-drawn-out election.
To his household Mr McCarthy stated, “I am where I am because you are who you are”.
“As Buck Owens sings, how many of you that sit and judge me have ever walked the streets of Bakersfield.
“Well, I have walked those streets my entire life. I know its people.
“They are hardworking and relentless, optimistic about our future and I am very honoured to have the opportunity to represent them.”
