New Zealand pilot remains hostage in West Papua New Guinea, fears for prolonged captivity

A New Zealand pilot held hostage in West Papua New Guinea fears his ordeal “could go on for a long time”.

Captain Philip Mehrtens was taken captive by rebels a couple of month in the past – after he landed a small aeroplane within the distant highlands of Central Papua.

Indonesian authorities affirm they know the pilot’s actual location.
