New box jellyfish with 24 eyes discovered in Hong Kong
Researchers have found a brand new type of jellyfish that is a relation of our personal tropical stingers – the field jellyfish dubbed probably the most venomous animal within the ocean.

The tiny cube-bodied jellyfish, measuring about 1.5cm, have been present in Hong Kong’s Mai Po nature reserve by researchers from the Hong Kong Baptist University.

“This box jellyfish connects the base of its tentacles and its bell with a flat base that looks like a boat paddle, making it distinct from other common jellyfish,” Professor Qiu Jianwen from the HKBU Department of Biology mentioned in a video on-line.

“Another feature of the box jellyfish is that it has six eyes located on each side of its body.”

That provides as much as 24, although solely two have lenses for focusing, whereas the opposite 22 can merely understand mild.

The species was named tripedalia maipensis, after the character reserve the place it was found.

It is the primary field jellyfish ever found in Chinese waters, and researchers hope it is a sign of undiscovered marine life but to be discovered.

It’s not but recognized if the brand new species is ready to sting people.
