MEXICO CITY — Mexico on Monday paid tribute to a army rescue canine that died whereas trying to find survivors buried beneath the rubble of the earthquake in Turkey.
Defense Minister Luis Cresencio Sandoval introduced the demise of the German shepherd referred to as Proteo at President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s day by day news convention.
“You accomplished your mission… thank you for your heroic work,” the army mentioned on Twitter.

Proteo was one in all greater than a dozen rescue canines dispatched by Mexico together with 130 army personnel following the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that killed greater than 35,000 individuals in Turkey and Syria.
“You were always a strong, hard-working dog who never gave up. I will always remember you,” one rescuer who served alongside Proteo mentioned in a video. — Agence France-Presse
