A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck the Kermadec Islands area close to New Zealand on Monday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) mentioned.
The quake was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles).
The magnitude was initially reported at 7.3 by USGS however then downgraded to 7.1.
The USPacific Tsunami Warning Center mentioned the tsunami risk from the earthquake within the Kermadec Islands area has now handed. — Reuters
