Endangered bear attacks and kills jogger on woodland path in Italy
An endangered bear has attacked and killed a jogger who was operating on a woodland path in Italy’s north-east.

The man was out jogging at Val di Sole valley, close to his village in Caldes, within the Trentino area, on Wednesday when he was fatally mauled.

Local media have recognized the jogger as 26-year-old Andrea Papi.

His mauled physique was discovered by a search group, hours after his girlfriend reported him lacking.

Trentino area’s president, Maurizio Fugatti, mentioned the bear that killed Papi could be recognized and killed.

Alpine brown bears are endangered species within the province of Trentino and had been reintroduced to the realm by an EU programme between 1996 – 2004.

It’s believed there are round 100 bears now within the province.

Some animal rights organisations have condemned the choice to determine and kill the bear.

Legambiente, an environmental affiliation, mentioned it is the nation’s first deadly assault in 150 years, including there should not be a “witch hunt” in opposition to the animals normally.

In March, one other man was attacked by a bear in the identical area.

Val di Sole valley is a well-liked path for hikers and vacationers.
