Former Labor minister Graham Richardson says Australia’s relationship with Taiwan is one which have to be “maintained” and “nourished,” as a bipartisan group of Australian politicians is about to go to the island for bipartisan talks.
“It seems to me we can’t afford to simply cut Taiwan off as if it doesn’t exist because China doesn’t like us being friendly to them,” Mr Richardson advised Sky News Australia.
“They are our eighth or ninth biggest trading partner; how do you ignore that?”
