7.2 quake hits Alaska; PHIVOLCS says no tsunami threat to Philippines

An earthquake of magnitude 7.2 struck the Alaska Peninsula area early on Sunday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) mentioned, and a tsunami warning for close by areas was issued however later withdrawn.

PHIVOLCS, which measured the quake at 7.3, mentioned that there isn’t a tsunami risk to the Philippines. 

 

 

The US Tsunami Warning System withdrew a warning it had issued for coastal areas of South Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula.

USGS revised the magnitude of the earthquake down from an preliminary studying of seven.4, and it revised the depth of the quake to 32.6 km (20.3 miles) from an preliminary 9.3 km. — Reuters
