Deal on AI-powered weather forecasting system inked

SAN FRANCISCO, USA — An synthetic intelligence meteorology firm, Atmo Inc., signed a take care of the Philippines’ Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for the creation of a high-resolution climate forecasting system within the nation that may make the most of AI expertise.

On Thursday (PH time), President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. witnessed the signing of the memorandum of agreement between DOST Undersecretary Maridon Sahagun and Atmo Inc. Founder and CEO Alexander Levy.

“Atmo and the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) partnership on an AI-powered weather forecasting system will help the Philippines build its climate resilience,” Marcos said.

The Presidential Communications Office said that this would be Asia’s largest AI-driven weather forecasting program, which is expected to play a pivotal role in bolstering the Philippines’ resilience.

The MOA on weather forecasting is seen to help the Philippines considering that it is one of the countries most affected by typhoons.

Earlier, Marcos said the Philippines is ready to embrace AI as he urged technology firms to partner with the Philippines when it comes to what he described as a “technological revolution.”

Marcos expressed perception that the AI may uplift the lives of Filipinos, enhance the productiveness of enterprises, and improve the competitiveness of the nation’s economic system. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
