Croatia’s Donna Vekic and Czech Petra Kvitova have each gained two matches in a day to arrange the ultimate of the German Open in Berlin.
Vekic didn’t drop a set as she cruised into the grass-court ultimate on Saturday with a 6-4 7-6 (10-8) victory over Greek world No.8 Maria Sakkari.
The 26-year-old had first overwhelmed fortunate loser Elina Avanesyan in straight units of their quarter-final on Saturday morning after play was cancelled because of heavy rain on Friday.
She will face two-time Wimbledon champion Kvitova in Sunday’s ultimate after the Czech eased previous Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3 6-4 in what was her second match of the day as nicely.
The 33-year-old Kvitova had earlier overwhelmed Caroline Garcia of France for her first top-10 win on grass since she beat Maria Sharapova within the 2011 Wimbledon ultimate
