Swiatek into Italian Open semis after dispatching Keys

Two-time champion Iga Swiatek has eased into the Italian Open semi-finals with a 6-1 6-3 win over 18th seed Madison Keys.

The quarter-final in Rome was a repeat of Swiatek’s latest semi-final conflict with America’s Keys in Madrid, which ended with the identical scoreline.

World No.1 Swiatek broke serve within the opening sport, and whereas Keys received her subsequent service sport to like to make it 2-1, the Polish top-seed received the following 4 video games to take the primary set in 26 minutes.

Swiatek wanted only one break within the second set, which gave her a 3-1 lead, and when the Pole saved 4 break factors within the subsequent sport to carry serve, Keys’ probability of a comeback ended.

“Honestly I felt really good today, even if I that knew one or two points could change everything,” Swiatek stated.

“I’m glad that I served well because I think when we were kind of even in the games sometimes, I could win two points just by serving.

“It’s one thing that does not occur typically in my sport, so at present was a great day by way of that.”

Swiatek, who will next play either third seed Coco Gauff or Zheng Qinwen, is aiming to win her fourth title this year having already won the Qatar Open, Indian Wells and the Madrid Open.

Four hundred kilometres north, at the WTA 125 event in Parma, Astra Sharma lost despite taking the first set against India’s Ankita Raina 3-6 4-6 6-1.

Ajla Tomljanovic wil play Mexico’s Renata Zarazua within the final 16 on Wednesday.
