Norwegian tennis participant Casper Ruud has been voted the winner of the ATP’s Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award, breaking an 18-year stranglehold by Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
The 23-year-old loved a positive season and sits third within the end-of-year rankings after profitable three titles.
He additionally reached the ultimate of the French Open, US Open and the ATP Finals, dropping to Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic respectively.
The Stefan Edberg Award recognises “fair play, professionalism and integrity on and off the court”, the ATP’s official web site says.
Nadal and the now retired Federer had gained the award yearly since 2004, with the Spaniard taking it 5 instances – and the final 4 years working – and the Swiss on 13 events.
“A big thanks to everyone who voted for me,” Ruud stated.
“I feel very, very honoured and happy to win this prize this year. I will try to keep my mood in the right place for next year. Can’t wait to be back on court.”
