Training camp ‘more grueling’ as Filipinas prepare for Women’s World Cup

With lower than a month remaining till the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the Philippine ladies’s nationwide soccer crew stated their coaching camp in Sydney has been tougher, particularly with the competitors they are going to be going through.

Kiara Fontanilla, one of many goalkeepers within the Filipinas’ 29-player provisional squad, stated that their grueling coaching is to assist them obtain their aim of proudly representing the Philippines within the World Cup.

“I would definitely really have to agree that it has been more grueling, they have been on top of us a bit more because we are going into battle, as they like to say,” Fontanilla stated in a digital press convention hosted by Summit Water on Friday.

“We definitely will always try to perfect our craft and hold each other accountable a lot more than we usually do but we know that we’re striving for that one goal which is to make the country proud and bring as much pride as we can not only when we play on the field but as much off the field.”

Alicia Barker, one of many crew’s defenders, additionally stated they’re conscious of the powerful competitors they are going to be stepping into.

“It’s truly an honor and an achievement to play on the world stage and represent the Philippines. Right now, we’re in camp preparing to play against great competition,” she stated.

“We have some pretty big goals. We’re doing everything we can now to perform and hopefully make our country proud.”

Despite their coaching, the Filipinas took day out final week when the crew watched the Philippine ladies’s basketball crew within the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup.

“I hope that they know that we are always rooting for them,” stated Barker. “It was a special experience to be so close and have an opportunity to see them play.”

The Filipinas will kick off their marketing campaign within the FIFA Women’s World Cup on July 21 after they face Switzerland of their group stage opener in New Zealand. They can even face New Zealand and Norway within the pool stage.
