Former Test captain Tim Paine waved goodbye as he walked by a guard of honour at Bellerive Oval in Hobart to mark his retirement from all types of home cricket.
The 38-year-old, who made his debut for Tasmania in 2005 and went on to play 35 Tests for Australia, was clapped from the sphere after his workforce’s Sheffield Shield season ended with a draw in opposition to Queensland.
“He’s been a phenomenal player,” Tasmanian captain Jordan Silk mentioned.
“It’s an effort to have the longevity that he’s had.
“He’s actually going to be missed behind the stumps. I don’t assume there’ll ever be one other wicketkeeper pretty much as good as Tim Paine in Australia.
Paine, who stepped down as Test captain earlier than the Ashes in 2021 after a sexting scandal and took a break from cricket, performed 95 matches for his state and completed with a Tasmanian document of 196 dismissals.
He made his return to the Tasmanian arrange earlier within the season by way of the one-day competitors regardless of not having a state contract.
Paine was then introduced again into the Shield workforce, making 156 runs in his seven video games this season.
