Stars align to sign Englishman Moores as next BBL coach

The Melbourne Stars will put their religion in former England coach Peter Moores to interrupt their Big Bash League drought, after signing the mentor on a two-season deal.

Moores will take over from David Hussey, who left his function on the Stars on the finish of final season to take up the function of head of male cricket in Victoria.

Moores’ job will not come easy. The Stars finished at the bottom of the table last season and have not reached the playoffs since their grand final capitulation in 2019/20.

They also remain one of only two clubs to have not won a title, alongside the Hobart Hurricanes.

Changes already loom at the club, with star legspinner Adam Zampa expected to move to the Melbourne Renegades when the league’s contracting window opens.

“Peter was the excellent candidate from a really sturdy group of candidates and I’d wish to thank all of them for his or her time,” Stars’ general manager Blair Couch said.

“Peter has constructed a really sturdy resume over an extended time period each at home and worldwide degree and we sit up for him sharing all of that data and expertise with our group.

“We are well aware of the challenge ahead of us. Rest assured the entire club is working as hard as we can to rise back up the BBL ladder, and Peter is the best man to lead this group.”
