Ghosts of the previous could have no bearing on Australia’s fortunes in India, coach Andrew McDonald says.
The vacationers are looking for to finish a 19-year drought within the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy sequence, beginning in Nagpur on Thursday.
The final time they have been profitable, Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting steered Australia to victory in India method again in 2004.
Since then, Australia have misplaced all 4 Test sequence in India, with only one win and 10 losses in 14 matches.
But McDonald is not fazed about historical past being closely weighted within the hosts’ favour.
“No two teams are the same, so you don’t inherit the past,” McDonald stated.
“This team is totally separated from the teams that have been here before.
“(We have) gamers which were right here earlier than and skilled the circumstances, sure, and that is a constructive.
“But the group that we’ve got now … shouldn’t inherit the past performances of previous Australian teams.
“And that goes for the profitable excursions as properly.”
Last year, Australia won a three-Test series away to Pakistan (1-0) and split two Tests in Sri Lanka.
McDonald believes those recent experiences on the subcontinent have prepared Pat Cummins’ side for India this time around.
“We’ve been to Pakistan into Sri Lanka into India in a 12-month interval, in order that locations us rather well,” McDonald stated.
“It’s distinctive that you’ve three subcontinent excursions in a 12-month area and the workforce’s had nice continuity.
“People will call it ‘the last frontier’ and all of that, but this is just a continuation of the journey for this team.”
McDonald has been pleased with the “wide range” of circumstances the Australians have confronted throughout their Bangalore coaching camp in preparation for the Test sequence.
He is not bothered by criticism – most notably from former captain Michael Clarke – concerning the resolution to not play a tour match in India.
“It’s really just allowing the individuals to prepare in their own space and then narrow into their method and how they’re going to go about it come the first Test match, rather than a practice game that can dictate different scenarios and potentially don’t cover off everything that you’re going to (encounter),” McDonald stated.
