Beer big CUB has created a cheeky pint for England’s cricket crew after they bitterly refused to have a beer with the Aussies following the controversial Ashes Test win.
A restricted version “English Bitter” — a nod to Victorian Bitter — has been brewed specifically for Ben Stokes and his crew of whingers.
The slabs of booze have been dispatched and are en path to Headingley the place they are going to be delivered to the English crew.
Attached to the cheeky present is a word inviting the Poms to drink their particular beers heat or chilly, win, lose or draw after the third Test.
“You can get it not protecting your stumps, you can get it ignoring the umps,’’ the note said.
VB will also release a rejigged version of its iconic jingle, in the great tradition of banter between the two cricketing nations.
“We know the English are bitter about the Lord’s Test, but when they’re feeling less bitter we’ve got a beer to shout them … our fresh new England Bitter,’’ VB marketing manager Marc Lord said.
“England Bitter has got their name on it and we’re sending a few slabs to the English Cricket team to enjoy once they’ve cooled off.
“We raise our glass to the whole Australian team for securing a famous win in the second test, and wish them the best of luck in winning the series.”
Free England Bitter T-shirts can even be given out to Aussie followers at Headingley on Thursday.
Victoria Bitter’s sponsorship of the Australian Cricket crew resulted in 2017, after a two-decade-long relationship.
Bundaberg Rum now sponsors the crew.
