Australian Test captain Pat Cummins will miss the third match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India to be along with his significantly ailing mom.
The quick bowler returned dwelling to Sydney instantly after Australia’s second Test defeat in Delhi to spend time with household, telling the squad on Friday morning he wouldn’t make it again for the following match in Indore on March 1.
Steve Smith will fill in as captain for the third time since Cummins took the reins in November 2021.
“I have decided against returning to India at this time as my mother is ill and in palliative care. I feel I am best being here with my family,” Cummins stated.
“I appreciate the overwhelming support I have received from Cricket Australia and my teammates. Thanks for your understanding.”
It is unclear whether or not the 29-year-old will return for the fourth and last Test in Ahmedabad on March 9.
