The Philippine Basketball Association celebrates its anniversary each April 9 because it held its first double header on that day in 1975.
The league posted on Sunday some trivia concerning the league’s firsts in commemoration of its forty eighth anniversary.
The inaugural double header of Asia’s first play-for-pay league had Mariwasa-Noritake versus Concepcion Carrier, and Toyota versus Universal Textile on the Araneta Coliseum.
Gregorio “Joy” Dionisio made the historic first PBA basket on a brief jumper.
Israel “Cisco” Oliver made the primary error by stepping on a line whereas it was Ramon Lucindo who first fouled out.
Coincidentally, because the PBA celebrates its forty eighth anniversary, crowd favourite Barangay Ginebra takes on TNT Tropang Giga in Game 1 of the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals on the similar venue the place the league had its first recreation.
