USA’s Austin Reaves on upset loss to Germany: ‘It sucks’

Austin Reaves did not mince his phrases when requested what it felt prefer to lose a recreation with a ticket to the 2023 FIBA World Cup finals at stake.

The Los Angeles Lakers standout mentioned ‘It sucks’, particularly with the likes of US basketball legends Carmelo Anthony and Sue Bird watching on the sidelines because the USA tried to make it again to the gold medal spherical after lacking it out within the earlier version.

“Anytime you lose, at least for me but I could probably speak for every guy in the locker room, it sucks,” the 25-year-old gunner mentioned after they absorbed a 113-111 loss to Germany to formally bow out of rivalry.

“As a competitor, losing is literally  the worst thing that could possibly happen.”

Reaves, who completed with 21 factors, mentioned going up towards Germany was not a straightforward activity. The Germans swept their first spherical assignments towards Australia, Japan, and Finland. The Germans then dominated Georgia and Slovenia within the second spherical for an unbeaten slate earlier than heading to Manila for the ultimate section.

“Honestly, it’s super tough. We knew the task at hand and that was to win and we didn’t do that,” Reaves added.
