Team USA might be heading to the Philippines to play its group video games within the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
According to an announcement made by FIBA on Monday, the host international locations have chosen most popular groups to play the Group Phase of their respective international locations.
“FIBA’s Central Board has confirmed, after consultation with the host nations, that USA will play in the Philippines, Slovenia will travel to Japan and Canada will land in Indonesia. Both Slovenia and Canada have qualified for the World Cup, while USA are in a good position to clinch a berth in the tournament field in the last Window of the Qualifiers,” FIBA mentioned in a launch.
FIBA added “Each host could select a preferred team based on commercial reasons, as their choice will have no impact on the integrity of the event or the draw process.”
As host of the Group and Final part, the Philippines might be put in Pot 1 within the draw, together with different greatest ranked groups after the final window of the World Cup qualifiers in February 2023, the place the opposite rivals might be decided.
Due to this, FIBA mentioned the Philippines and USA might be positioned in two totally different teams out of 4 that the Philippines will host. Two teams every will play in Japan and Indonesia.
The FIBA World Cup draw might be held on April 29.
