The Brisbane Bullets have appointed Australian under-17 mentor Justin Schueller because the membership’s new coach following a horror NBL season.
Schueller joins the Bullets, who’ve misplaced 20 of their 28 matches in a disastrous 2022-23 NBL marketing campaign, from Melbourne United, the place he had been an assistant coach for the previous six seasons.
He turns into the fourth Bullets coach in three months, following within the footsteps of the sacked James Duncan, and Sam Mackinnon and Greg Vanderjagt, who each held the function in an interim capability.
Vanderjagt was in cost from December 13 till the completion of Brisbane’s season final weekend and was in rivalry to maintain the job earlier than the Bullets opted for Schueller.
“I’m excited and honoured to be joining the Bullets and look forward to leading the club forward as we chase our next championship for this proud club,” Schueller stated.
“This has been something I have been wanting for a long time and I couldn’t think of a better club to be joining.”
“It’s an exciting time for the club. We have two Olympians (Aron Baynes and Nathan Sobey) on our roster to build around, a fan base that is always there behind the team and opportunity to turn our on-court output around quickly.
“I can’t wait to get started building this roster and get to work with the group.”
Bullets senior basketball adviser Stu Lash stated: “We as an organisation are extremely happy to welcome Justin to the club.
“Justin’s championship experience and proven recruiting methods in the NBL will play a big part in the Bullets’ future.”
Bullets chief govt officer Peter McLennan stated Schueller had “all the necessary traits to lead our group moving forward”.
“Justin’s vision, goals and values align well with what the organisation want to achieve and he will play a pivotal role both on and off the court,” McLennan stated.
“The level of candidates was extremely high and we’d like to sincerely thank everyone who participated throughout our process and for allowing us the necessary time to complete our search.”
