it’s an enormous Sunday of AFL forward: can the Bombers reverse their two-game slide? Do Sydney stand an opportunity in opposition to Collingwood on the MCG?
Fox Sports Lab AFL’s consultants Jason Dunstall, Ben Dixon and Al Paton have a look at the large Sunday AFL video games as Port Adelaide host Essendon and Collingwood tackle Sydney on the ‘G.
Does Dunstall imagine the Bombers can return to type?
“I know the form doesn’t look great on paper for the Bombers, but even though they weren’t in the contest against the Cats they still kicked 100 points against a good defence,” argues the AFL legend.
“So I wouldn’t say it’s all doom and gloom. But they come up against a team that’s playing really good football at the moment.”
Adds Paton, “Port have also won their past five over Essendon and over the past month they’ve had the meanest defence in the AFL, averaging only 66 points against.”
As for the Pies internet hosting the Swans on the ‘G?
“These two teams,” factors out Paton, “they haven’t actually played at the MCG since 2013, makes it hard to put a line through their form.”
“But the Pies,“ Paton adds, “ it’s hard to tip against them even when they’re four goals down halfway through the last quarter.”
Dunstall, in the meantime, has worries about Sydney. “They had good momentum early in the season, the young players were the ones carrying them, that’s worn off a bit.”
“We know they’ve got some injuries and trying to get some players back. They’re going through a tough period at the moment, but any John Longmire team you don’t write off.”
