Watch out for Freo’s forward ‘nightmare’ match-up

Alex Pearce has a warning for his rival AFL defenders: When you face Freo, there’s a “nightmare” match-up ready for you.

The new Dockers skipper has hailed the influence of low season recruit Luke Jackson, who looms as a key piece within the facet’s restructured ahead line as they search for extra chunk in assault in 2023.

Jackson is more likely to spend loads of time contained in the ahead 50 as he shares the ruck load with Sean Darcy, rising as a contemporary key goal alongside new everlasting ahead Nat Fyfe and mainstay spearhead Matt Taberner.

“I’m sure opposition defences are going to have some fun trying to deal with him.

“I think we’ve got a few avenues now to kicking a score, which is really nice.

“Those guys… I feel like they’ve linked together a little bit better in the first practice matches we’ve played, particularly the last one against Port.

“They’ve just looked like a really tight unit and they’ve been really unselfish, and that’s really important for all lines and particularly up forward.”

Jackson is ready to be handed match to face St Kilda in Sunday’s season opener at Marvel Stadium. The 21-year-old missed the Dockers’ closing pre-season conflict final week after struggling delayed complications stemming from a knock in a contest final month.

In his first recreation as full-time captain, Pearce will lead Freo towards the person who coached him for the primary six seasons of his AFL profession in Ross Lyon.

The defender stated the enjoying group was unfazed by the prospect of going up towards the person who was a mentor to many of the squad.

“It’s not going to change anything at all,” Pearce stated.

“Maybe he’ll be out on the ground after the game and I’ll be able to say g’day – hopefully he’s a bit crabby because we’ve just got a win.”
