Hawthorn nice Luke Hodge says half of West Coast’s board should go if the Eagles sack coach Adam Simpson within the coming weeks.
Reports all season have circled that Simpson was below stress to stay on the helm of the Eagles regardless of having a watertight contract till the top of 2025.
The Eagles, together with chairman Paul Fitzpatrick and chief government Trevor Nisbett, have persistently backed the premiership coach to stay on the helm regardless of simply two wins of their previous 47 video games.
But a record-breaking 101-point loss to Fremantle final weekend – their fifth by 100 factors or extra this season alone – seems to have been the tipping level, with the board set to decide come the top of the season on Simpson’s future.
Not one member of the board would again Simpson when contacted by The West Australian earlier this week earlier than the coach fronted the media on Friday to say he wouldn’t be quitting.
Fitzpatrick, Nisbett in addition to board members Justin Langer and Ben Wyatt flew with the crew to Melbourne on Friday forward of their sport in opposition to the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.
The Eagles are set for a large teaching restructure subsequent season, with long-time assistant Daniel Pratt believed to be on the way in which out, whereas forwards coach Luke Webster can be understood to be out of contract.
Four-time Hawthorn premiership star Hodge questioned why the Eagles have been set to decide now on Simpson after backing him by means of a more durable interval earlier this season.
“You can’t go and back someone for 18 months … yes they had a 100-point loss last week but they had three closer games than what they had for the first half of the year,” Hodge instructed SEN.
“They’ve either buckled to the pressure of the media or they’ve dragged Simmo along.
“He’s said from the start ‘I want to coach this team, I’ve got two years, I’m committing to this team’, they’re saying ‘we’ve back you’ and all of a sudden they’ve either lied the whole way or the media has got to them. And they’ve buckled.
“How can you have such a big change of heart from the board? You’re not just going to wake up and go ‘Simmo’s not the right man, let’s get rid of him’.
“They’ve either buckled to the media pressure or they’ve lied to Simmo the whole way.
“If they’re going to sack him this week or next week and it hasn’t come from him saying to them ‘I’ve had enough’, that is utter crap from them.”
