“It’s an organisation I’ve looked upon and watched on in envy with the work they’ve done in the 25-year history they’ve had.
“I’m going to work with their leaders that are coming through, they’ve obviously lost a handful of players to the Dolphins and now it’s time for this next group of leaders to come through.
“It was pretty appealing to me with the ages of these guys and the position that they were in as a club to join them and see how we go.
“It’s a very stable club and they’ve been fortunate with those people (Craig Bellamy, Cam Smith and Frank Ponissi).
Selwood will return to the Cats in an off-field role as an ambassador and connector of key Club stakeholders and Geelong Football Club Foundation, his first role in the AFL since hanging up the boots.
“Whilst Joel won’t be pulling on the boots in 2023, he won’t be lost to the club and we’re thrilled to continue to have the calibre of Joel within our team of all,” says Geelong CEO Steve Hocking.
“The next 12 months presents a unique and rich opportunity for Joel to learn the craft of off-field football administration, as he embraces new dawns and new opportunities post playing.
“We know Joel is an impressive leader and we believe he can continue to play an important role with the club in this new capacity.”
