“There are definitely some similarities,” Lycett advised reporters on Tuesday.
“We’re definitely building nicely at the moment and building belief – it’s the belief, the spirit of the group.
“I believe we received 11 (sic, 10) in a row at West Coast on the time.
“(The) young guys coming through, we’ve had a lot of young guys this year go to the next level – they were already at an amazing level and they’ve gone even higher.
“… That was fairly just like what we had at West Coast after I was there.”
Lycett led the rucks in West Coast’s season of triumph and, after a hiccup this year, has returned to that status at Port.
The 30-year-old had shoulder surgery in 2022 and this season was axed after round five, prompting some speculation that his best was behind him.
Lycett ignored the doubters during his four-game absence from the AFL.
“I’m fairly cussed … I at all times knew that if I received myself proper and have one other crack at it, I’d be OK,” he mentioned.
“I simply had that confidence that I would not be (within the state league) for lengthy.
“The last 12 months has been pretty up and down in terms of on-field, off-field, injuries, a lot of things going on.
“So to have some consistency with my physique, I really feel like I’m enjoying the footy I used to be enjoying earlier than I received injured final 12 months.
“I just needed some confidence in my body and mind, so it’s all good now.”
