Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir has launched a staunch defence of high-priced recruit Luke Jackson and the Dockers’ sport plan after two shock losses to open the season.
The Dockers have seemed gradual and uninspired in defeats to St Kilda at Marvel Stadium and North Melbourne of their dwelling opener, with the ahead line failing to fireside and the engine room overwhelmed up at floor stage.
Jackson has been dreadful since arriving from Melbourne on a $900,000-a-year deal.
The 21-year-old has taken only one mark in two video games and hasn’t kicked a objective.
However, Longmuir insists the tough criticism isn’t warranted.
“Luke’s two games into a long career at Freo, so we definitely didn’t get him to the club with a short-term vision,” he advised 7NEWS.
“Watching his game pretty closely, I think he’s creating a lot of opportunities for himself; he’s probably just not finishing his opportunities off.
“He will continue to build on his game.”
Longmuir stated didn’t purchase into Fremantle needing a sooner sport plan, claiming a quick-fix up ahead would get the Dockers rolling.
“A lot of different phases of our game plan are a bit clunky at the moment, and we need to work on all our game,” he stated.
“As for too slow ball movement, I don’t buy into that, I think we would like to finish off our work better in our front half, and that will make our ball movement look a lot better.”
After being a late withdrawal from the conflict in opposition to the Kangaroos on Saturday, Nat Fyfe continues to be an opportunity to play in Sunday’s western derby, with Longmuir saying his authentic estimate of two weeks was fallacious.
“I’m not sure he was ever out of the derby, I might have got that wrong in the press conference, but he’s tracking really well,” he stated.
“He’s got to get through training on Thursday, but everything is going as planned.”
