I wouldn’t reach landmark without Hinkley: Port’s Dixon

Without Ken Hinkley’s blunt suggestions, Port Adelaide’s unstable spearhead Charlie Dixon says he would not be on the cusp of a serious milestone.

Dixon will play his 2 hundredth AFL sport on Saturday, in opposition to his former membership Gold Coast.

“I can fly off the handle a bit,” the 32-year-old advised reporters on Thursday.

“If I didn’t have him (Hinkley) in my career, I wouldn’t be playing … he has always been brutally honest with me and that’s the way I respond and how I like my feedback.

“I can merely put it all the way down to, I would not be the place I’m at this time with out Ken.”

What sort of feedback has Hinkley offered?

“Mainly calling me a dickhead when I’m being a dickhead, on and off the sector,” Dixon stated.

“And ensuring I’m accountable on and off the sector and representing the membership and myself in a correct method.

“And making sure I am being a good human first. And that is what Ken is massive on, is making sure he’s looking after the human before the footballer.”

Hinkley was an assistant coach on the Suns when Dixon was a part of the Gold Coast’s inaugural squad.

The Cairns-born ahead performed 65 video games for the Suns between 2011-16 earlier than being lured to Port Adelaide to rejoin head coach Hinkley.

“I had no idea what I was walking into,” Dixon stated.

“I had no family down here. I knew Ken and Krak (former Suns and Power player Nathan Krakouer) and that was it.

“And to be trustworthy I did not actually prefer it that a lot – it was moist and windy and chilly and it felt prefer it was raining each morning.

“I thought I was going to do my five years and get out of here but I have fallen in love with the place.

“It was a little bit of a shock to the system coming right into a soccer city and particularly one as passionate as Adelaide.”

The often injury-troubled forward has since won Port’s leading goalkicker award three times and earnt All Australian selection in 2020.

“It’s fairly unreal to be at this many video games,” he stated.

“I’ve been within the system for a very long time and doubtless ought to have been there a short while in the past (however for accidents).

“I am definitely grateful for the opportunity to have even played one game so to play 200, I am over the moon.

“I do not suppose many individuals thought I might get this far so it is positively fairly humbling.”
