West Coast Eagles star Nic Naitnaui’s retirement name has sparked an outpouring of emotion from followers across the AFL.
The pleasure machine pulled the pin on his illustrious profession on Monday after horror runs with damage held him on the sidelines for nearly the whole thing of the final two seasons.
And whereas followers had been left depressed he wouldn’t be capable to run out one final time within the Blue and Gold; they had been fast to thank the Flying Fijian for forsaking a spotlight reel to envy the greats.
“This one hits hard. As much as anyone he lead us out of the doldrums post 2010 and never got the premiership medal he deserved Favourite player to watch, he’ll be missed Thanks for everything Nic. Always was, always will be a champion,” Keyser wrote beneath the membership’s announcement on Twitter.
Outbreezy posted a video of Naitanui in motion, thanking him for the highlights.
Another fan wrote to his character and the legacy he’ll go away behind.
“Congrats on a great career, such a dominant tap ruckman and clearance beast, genuinely bought people to the footy and made West Coast better. Genuine, great guy and it’s a shame injury ends how you go out.”
A continuing theme all through the heart-felt tributes was Naitanui being a fan-favourite.
“I had such high hopes we might get him back next year for a couple games before he left us! Sad sad few weeks for our club with these retirements. You did an amazing service for our club and its been an absolute privilege to watch you play. We will miss you!”
“This one hurts. You’ll always be a fave!”
“Another generational eagle retires. Thanks for the highlights Nic Nat, you deserved a premiership medal.”
“Deadset champion of the game. Criminally underrated externally his whole career. Sad to see the end of this era. Congratulations.”
