Fremantle assistant coach Jaymie Graham has highlighted the significance of Nat Fyfe’s three-goal pre-season efficiency in opposition to Adelaide on Friday as he builds chemistry together with his new forward-line teammates.
The former skipper was one of many large positives in an in any other case disappointing loss to the Crows, booting three majors for the second week in a row in addition to having an influence defensively.
Graham, who’s accountable for Fremantle’s forwards, has been working carefully with the twin Brownlow medallist in the course of the pre-season as he strikes out of the engine-room and into assault.
“It was important that he got some chemistry with our forward line and he showed some really good signs with his leading, marking and his set shot goal-kicking but also the pressure side,” Graham instructed the membership web site.
“He put a couple of tackles on inside 50 which is another part that he is building upon in his game.”
Graham felt there have been loads of areas to enhance forward of Thursday’s conflict in opposition to Port Adelaide at Fremantle Oval – the ultimate hit-out earlier than spherical one in opposition to St Kilda at Marvel Stadium on March 19.
“It wasn’t really a high-pressure game and that is probably what you are after when you do come up against opposition,” Graham stated.
“We didn’t play at our best from that point of view and we will be looking to bring more energy in our defence and put some more pressure on.
“We are not really worried about the result, it is more around our process and the way we want to play.
“We started well and played it in our front half, but it really opened up after that and Adelaide did get on top for the remainder of those second, third and fourth periods.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t get the game looking the way we would like. We will look to sharpen up in that area against Port.”
Graham was excited by how effectively recruits Luke Jackson and Jaeger O’Meara carried out and the chemistry between Jackson and Sean Darcy, who cut up ruck duties.
“It was great to get a hit-out and get some chemistry with a few players like the two ruckmen working together,” he stated.
Graham dispelled any potential damage issues for younger key ahead Jye Amiss, who regarded sore post-match.
“He will be fine, he got a couple of corks.”
