Fremantle look to reset after dirty western derby loss

Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir is adamant there have been no excuses for his workforce’s western derby flop, saying his gamers merely bought smoked within the contest.

West Coast led 46-3 by early within the second quarter of Saturday’s match on the way in which to their shock 16.9 (105) to 10.8 (68) AFL win.

The Eagles gained the contested possession battle 132-108, resulting in a 48-40 win within the inside 50m rely.

Fremantle kicked simply 10 targets from the match, persevering with a worrying scoring lull throughout which they’d kicked simply 9 targets in every of the earlier three matches.

But it was the competition work that frightened Longmuir essentially the most.

“Probably from the 20-minute mark in the first quarter for about two-and-a-half quarters, we got smoked in the contest,” Longmuir stated.

“Behind the ball they were able to halve contests or win contests.

“And in entrance of the ball they simply smoked us – led us to the ball and anticipated surge contests wins faster than us.

“And around the ball, at stoppage, we got our hands on it, but that pressure was too good and we didn’t trust ourselves against their pressure, and we coughed it and let them walk out the front.”

The Dockers gained their opening three video games to shoot into early flag rivalry.

But heartbreaking losses to Port Adelaide and Carlton – when Fremantle coughed up the lead within the dying minutes of every recreation – severely dented the Dockers’ momentum.

Longmuir stated these disappointing losses weren’t an excuse for his or her poor show in opposition to West Coast.

“I’m not going to sit here and use that as an excuse,” Longmuir stated.

“I thought we had a good week prep and we got beaten by what we prepared for tonight, We just weren’t good enough, so I’m not going to use that.

“Look at our recreation over the primary 5 weeks. We’ve been superb at contests, been superb with our stress, been superb with our floor ball, and all that was off tonight.

“We’ve had close losses, we’ve had good wins, and now we’ve had a really poor defeat.

“We’ll assessment like we reviewed all our different video games, work out what went improper, reset and go once more.”

Hayden Young finished the match on the bench, but Longmuir is hopeful the midfielder will be fit for next Saturday night’s crunch home clash with the Western Bulldogs.

“He had a good hammy,” Longmuir stated.

“The recreation was completed and it wasn’t value risking. So hopefully we dodged a bullet there.”

Jye Amiss will miss the match after being concussed in the opening minutes against West Coast.

Matt Taberner, who was rested this week, is predicted to switch Amiss.
