Former Brisbane Lions ahead Tom Berry will make his first AFL look for the Gold Coast on Saturday, with Suns coach Stuart Dew having made adjustments to a profitable line-up.
The Suns will chase a 3rd successive win on Saturday once they host Melbourne at Heritage Bank Stadium.
Despite Gold Coast’s back-to-back wins, Dew has made 4 adjustments – three of them seemingly pressured – to his 22.
Berry, Sam Flanders, Levi Casboult and Malcolm Rosas Jr, who was the substitute within the Suns’ 24-point victory over Richmond final Sunday, have been elevated,
Alex Sexton has been dropped, whereas Nick Holman (foot), Ben Ainsworth (quad) and Lachie Weller (knee) did not cross health exams.
Berry’s inclusion comes after run of type in Gold Coast’s VFL staff.
The 23-year-old youthful brother of Lions star Jarrod Berry left Brisbane on the finish of the final season in the hunt for extra top-flight soccer.
In three seasons with the Lions, Tom made 20 AFL appearances, solely three of which got here final yr.
“Towards the back end of last season I did my shoulder which wasn’t perfect timing for me and I had to make the decision on what was going to be best for me,” Tom instructed AFL.com.au in March.
“I spoke to my manager about what I was getting offered at Brisbane and the opportunity elsewhere and obviously the Suns were really keen to get me on board.”
Tom’s Suns’ AFL debut coincides with Gold Coast co-captain Jarrod Witts’ one hundred and fiftieth look within the competitors.
After 40 video games in 4 seasons with Collingwood, Witts joined the Suns forward of the membership’s 2017 marketing campaign.
“It’s been a long journey,” the 30-year-old Sydney-born ruckman stated.
“I started playing footy when I was 15 just to play with mates and it’s ended up here.
“I’m extremely privileged and there’s been a lot of hard work too, so it’s nice to get here.”
Witts will go head-to-head on Saturday together with his former Magpies teammate Brodie Grundy, who’s now a part of a feared Demons rucking duo with Max Gawn.
“Brodie and I went at it in the early days at the Pies for a few years, so we’ve played on each other a lot, and clearly Max is in great form,” Witts stated.
“It’s going to be a great challenge for us as a team to try and work them out.”
