Inaugural Collingwood captain Steph Chiocci has departed the Magpies for St Kilda as a part of a bumper three-club deal to kick off the AFLW commerce interval.
Chiocci, who had been both sole or co-captain of the Magpies throughout the seven seasons since their first recreation in 2017, departs alongside twin best-and-fairest winner Jaimee Lambert because the Magpies transfer to rejuvenate their listing.
But in gaining the skilled pair, plus Collingwood’s decide No.31, St Kilda misplaced best-and-fairest winner, former co-captain and key objective kicker Kate Shierlaw to North Melbourne and younger midfielder Tarni White to the Magpies.
The Magpies gained White, North Melbourne’s decide No.15 and Kangaroos utility Grace Campbell within the commerce.
The exits of Chiocci and Lambert add to an low season of change for Collingwood, following Chloe Molloy’s departure for Sydney in final week’s precedence signing interval.
“Steph will forever be Collingwood’s first AFLW captain which is extremely special for our club,” Collingwood girls’s soccer boss Jess Burger stated.
“Jaimee has made outstanding on-field contributions for our program which is recognised in the many accolades she has achieved throughout her time at Collingwood.
“As the pair enter the latter years of their careers, this is a chance for our membership to safe some thrilling younger expertise who will make each optimistic on-field and off-field contributions to our program.”
There had already been significant player movement due to last week’s priority signing period, during which the four expansion clubs – Hawthorn, Essendon, Port Adelaide and Sydney – were able to sign a number of players without having to trade.
Brisbane stars Emily Bates and Greta Bodey joined Hawthorn, while Sydney snapped up Collingwood gun Chloe Molloy and Carlton youngster Lucy McEvoy.
Port Adelaide had been huge winners, recruiting All-Australian bookends Ash Woodland (Adelaide) and Janelle Cuthbertson (Fremantle), whereas Essendon signed North Melbourne’s Brooke Brown.
