Dew signed a two-year contract extension final 12 months, tying him to the membership till the tip of 2024, with stories the membership had made contact with now-North Melbourne coach Alastair Clarkson however opted to stay with the Port Adelaide and Hawthorn premiership participant.
But an especially disappointing loss to Collingwood on the weekend, after a equally unhealthy loss to Carlton two weeks in the past, has Dew getting ready to the axe in accordance with Wilson.
“It’s my firm belief that Stuart Dew’s days at the Gold Coast Suns are numbered, and in fact he could be gone as early as by the end of this month,” she stated on Nine’s Footy Classified.
“The firm belief now at the club, taking it away from me, is that there has been no improvement this year, a year where improvement was expected.
“People around football and management are now casting big doubts on the standards within the footy club and the players and I’m talking more about preparation for big games. Matchday preparation and strategy from the coaching panel, when it comes to coping with those big games.
“Clearly a massive disappointment in a game against Collingwood, a game that was sold out, a game in which Gold Coast was expected to be at least competitive. This time last year, they lost to Collingwood by less than a goal and sat 11th on the ladder. This time, they were thrashed by Collingwood, they’re 12 on the ladder with the same amount of points and battling again to make the finals.”
While the ultimate resolution has not but been made Wilson believes Dew might be sacked a while over the ultimate eight weeks of the season, with ex-Tigers boss Hardwick then in line to be appointed.
While Suns CEO Mark Evans has denied talking with Hardwick, the Richmond coach went public together with his curiosity in returning to the AFL world final week, simply 5 rounds after stepping away from the Tigers because of burnout.
“Stuart Dew hasn’t been told, and I’m not sure where it’s standing at board level. But my firm belief is that a decision will be made within the next few weeks or certainly by the end of the season. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t happen by the end of July,” Wilson stated.
“And my equally firm view is Damien Hardwick will ultimately be the coach of the Gold Coast Suns. And then if there is a caretaker appointed at this stage, it looks like being Steven King.
“Mark Evans has denied that he’s spoken to Damien Hardwick, and Mark Evans has not denied talking to Paul Connors who’s up on the Gold Coast at the moment – Hardwick’s manager – but look, he manages several Gold Coast players, including (Ben) King who’s in his fourth year.
“There were also firm denials today that the relationship between Mark Evans as CEO and Stuart Dew had soured to the point that their relationship is not great. They were out together socially on Saturday night, but I can confirm that the pair are not particularly close. And I don’t think the relationship is strong enough to save Stuart Dew.”
Wilson stated she believes Dew would have been below stress and liable to being sacked no matter Hardwick’s standing.
Dew has a profession report of 36-83 with one draw as Suns coach, with a greatest report of 10-12 final season.
The Suns are 7-8 and sit a win and proportion exterior of the eight after Round 16.
