Adelaide’s Rory Sloane has give up as captain with Jordan Dawson the brand new skipper of the AFL membership.
Dawson will lead the Crows in simply his second season with the South Australian membership after Sloane relinquished the function after 4 years on the helm.
Sloane, who turns 33 subsequent month, is on the comeback path after having a knee reconstruction final April.
“The time is right,” Sloane mentioned in an announcement on Saturday.
“We have been talking about this for five to six months and I could 100 per cent keep going as captain but there is someone else who is ready to take the club forward.”
Dawson joined the Crows final season after being chosen by Sydney within the 2015 draft and taking part in 64 video games for the Swans.
The SA-born 25-year-old was summoned into Adelaide’s management group halfway by means of final season and was runner-up within the membership champion award.
“I could not be more excited to captain the club I barracked for growing up as a kid,” Dawson mentioned.
“It was surreal to pull on the guernsey last year and now this is a huge honour.
“Everyone at this membership desires to win and have success and do it as shortly as we are able to, so I’m honoured to have the duty of driving that.”
The Crows have missed the finals since being losing grand finalists in 2017 but coach Matthew Nicks praised the leadership of Sloane, who was appointed co-captain with Taylor Walker in 2019 and assumed the role by himself the following year.
“Rory has been a ‘comply with me’ captain who places his head within the gap on recreation day and has by no means requested anybody to do something he would not do himself,” Nicks mentioned.
“He has led our membership brilliantly by means of some very difficult instances and by no means allow us to down.
“But now is the right time to pass the baton to our next captain … Jordan is ready because in key moments he steps up and delivers, particularly on-field.
“We recognized him as having management qualities after we recruited him from Sydney and so they have shone by means of previously 18 months with us.”
