City keeper Glover stands tall under derby spotlight

Melbourne City coach Rado Vidosic has praised Tom Glover’s dealing with of an intense highlight after the goalkeeper was focused by a bit of Melbourne Victory followers within the A-League Men derby.

Glover was excellent in Saturday evening’s contest at AAMI Park, making a string of good saves.

But he could not forestall table-topping City struggling a shock 3-2 defeat by the hands of their arch-rivals.

Glover had been on the centre of the drama throughout the earlier derby in December, when a violent pitch invasion led to the match being known as off.

The 25-year-old suffered lacerations to his head when struck by a fan wielding a metallic bucket.

The incident got here after Glover tossed one of many flares thrown by followers again into the stands, enraging a few of Victory’s lively supporters.

Glover later escaped sanction for his function in one of many darkest days in Australian soccer historical past.

A bit of Victory followers had been keen to point out they hadn’t but moved on, taunting Glover all through Saturday evening’s conflict with songs referencing City’s custodian being “smashed by a bucket”.

“He handled it perfectly,” Vidosic stated.

“We didn’t talk about it (during the build-up).

“We knew that he is a giant boy, he can deal with himself.

“I think he was excellent.”

City had been caught out by a set piece, a quick break and a deflection of their shock defeat, with Glover not at fault for any of Victory’s objectives.

There was an electrical environment inside AAMI Park, although no official crowd determine was posted as a result of a stadium “system error” meant followers’ tickets weren’t scanning on entry.

There had been no apparent indicators of bother within the stands and Vidosic praised the “brilliant” supporters.

“We need every game to be like this,” Vidosic stated.

“We need more people to come and support, especially us, we are playing some really good football (this season).

“We are scoring freely, we’re controlling the sport, we’re creating possibilities, so we might like to have extra supporters come and revel in our play.”

Despite the derby defeat, City remain well clear on top of the table ahead of a home clash with Sydney FC on Saturday.

“There’s no have to panic,” Vidosic stated.
