AFL tweaks standing the mark rules

Players will now not obtain a 50-metre penalty by faking a handball to idiot an opponent standing the mark, the AFL says.

Three rule adjustments have been confirmed for the upcoming AFL season, together with two to the man-on-the-mark legal guidelines.

Clubs believed the penalty for breaking the mark when a participant had faked a handball was too harsh.

The rule has been tweaked to make sure no 50-metre penalties are awarded for such incidents, with the mark to be reset as an alternative.

If a participant faking a handball steps off their line, umpires will now name play-on to discourage such acts.

The different change to the standing-the-mark rule pertains to the five-metre protected space.

When a participant is penalised for freely giving a free kick or loses a marking contest, they need to stand the mark or instantly go away the protected space.

Meanwhile, gamers will obtain a warning after 25 seconds of their set-shot, as an alternative of at 15 seconds.

Players are allowed 30 seconds to begin their set-shot strategy.
