Western Bulldogs ahead Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has allegedly been the goal of “harmful and abhorrent racist remarks” from a St Kilda fan, in a case that has sparked an AFL investigation.
The incidents occurred throughout and following the Saints’ 51-point win over the Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Saturday evening.
Both golf equipment are working with the AFL to establish individuals concerned and have condemned the racist feedback.
“Racism of any kind does not belong in our game, nor in our society. We cannot tolerate it,” the Bulldogs stated in an announcement.
“Comments like these are extremely upsetting and cause significant hurt and harm for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
“They are stated to deliberately hurt, and we proceed to be confronted by them as a group.
“We’re saddened by the constant need to reinforce the negative impact this has on the individuals concerned, and all First Nations people.
“We will proceed to make a stand and name out this behaviour, and use our voice to additional educate our followers and the broader group.
“The club is supporting Jamarra, his family, and others within the club who have justifiably been impacted by this event.”
St Kilda say they’re united with the Bulldogs in making an attempt to stamp out racism.
“To be repeatedly addressing these repugnant instances of racism is a blight on our game and society,” the Saints stated in an announcement.
“We will continue to stamp out and call out this unacceptable behaviour by having these important conversations, as well as make ongoing education available for the wider community.
“As a membership, we’re dedicated to constructing larger consciousness of the hurt triggered via feedback corresponding to these.”
The AFL confirmed it is investigating the matter, working towards identifying the individuals concerned.
“Jamarra Ugle-Hagan is a younger 20-year-old participant attempting to forge a profession as an AFL footballer,” the league stated in an announcement.
“An spectacular younger man during which a part of his delight and power comes from his household.
“We stand with his family in calling out the racist comments, comments that cause significant hurt and harm for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.”
