Women lawmakers “took over” the House of Representatives on Monday’s session in celebration of International Women’s Month.
The proceedings have been performed in plenary with congresswomen appearing as presiding officers.
Tingog party-list Representative Yedda Romualdez, spouse of Speaker Martin Romualdez, took the rostrum for speaker duties.
The different House members named as presiding officers of the day have been:
- Linabette Villarica of Bulacan
- Florida Robes of Bulacan
- Ria Vergara of Nueva Ecija
- Lorna Silverio of Bulacan
- Anna York-Bondoc of Pampanga
- Lucille Nava of Guimaras
- Charisse Hernandez of Laguna
- Midi Cua of Quirino
- Ysabel Zamora of San Juan
- Migs Nograes of PBA party-list
“It is an honor to be present today with fellow women who work tirelessly to make the Philippines a better place for our countrymen. Women are powerful agents of change, and the advancement of women in the society, including increased leadership and decision-making roles, is a positive indicator of progress for all of us,” Romualdez stated in her opening remarks throughout Monday’s session.
“May this simple gesture of handing over power to the women be the platform for positive change as we continue to lead our nation to a kinder and gentler world for the next generation of women,” she added.
Likewise, she cited that girls all through the world have been shattering glass ceilings and laying down a path for different ladies to stroll on, from preventing for the proper of suffrage to now having the ability to lead nations and affect economies.
“Women have become trailblazers and powerful figures in their own fields of specialization and the world can no longer deny us of our rightful place in society’s leadership,” Romualdez added.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
