Woman freed after allegedly being held at knife-point in Brisbane

A lady has been freed and dropped at security after allegedly being held hostage at knife-point by her boyfriend inside a house in Brisbane’s outer suburbs. 

Police stated the 26-year-old lady was held towards her will by her 25-year-old boyfriend and dragged into the toilet of the Sunnybank Hills house about 11am in the present day.

“She is extremely traumatised, held at knifepoint for four hours,” Detective superintendent Andrew Massingham stated.

Specialist police and emergency crews swarmed the Bradman Street house at Sunnybank Hills simply after 11 this morning after receiving a name from a member of the general public.

Police made an emergency declaration underneath the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) after officers had been deployed to a welfare test. The declaration was later ended.

As police surrounded the home, owners Theresa and Brian Avison had been compelled out and unaware as to what was unfolding with their tenant within the unit downstairs.

“No words can express the stress that I’m going through,” Avison stated.

The 25-year-old man was allegedly already recognized to them.

Specialist negotiators had been on the scene on Bradman Street, which was closed between Bellrick and Peterkin Streets to all pedestrians and site visitors.

Around 2.30pm, talks broke down between the person and specialist negotiators which led to police forcing their method inside.

“At about 1.45pm we had some success where the male and female were communicating through the locked door,” Massingham stated.

“Unfortunately those conversations broke down.

“This was a high-risk state of affairs that I’m very grateful to report has ended peacfeully.”

Several houses on Morden Street are also affected.

Authorities said people within the PSPA zone – including residents, employees or otherwise – must stay inside until further notice.

The 25-year-old woman was taken to hospital for observation.

The man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and taken into police custody.
