A teenage boy has died after the automotive he was driving crashed right into a tree in Adelaide's south.

Police mentioned emergency providers had been referred to as to Lake Plains Road, in Lake Plains, about 64 kilometres from Adelaide, after receiving stories of the crash.

The driver of a Honda station wagon, a 17-year-old boy from Strathalbyn, died on the scene.

Lake Plains Road is predicted to be closed between Taverner Road and Borrett Road for a number of hours.
