“Police will allege some of the charges relate to the alleged serious assault of a 15-year-old girl at a shopping centre in Cheltenham at the weekend,” Victoria Police mentioned in an announcement.
“It is believed a group of teenagers approached two girls inside the store near a cinema about 3.15pm on July 23, when a verbal altercation occurred.
“One woman ran from the scene and the second woman, aged 15, was allegedly critically assaulted.”
She was taken to hospital for observation while a 13-year-old boy was charged and is before the courts.
Police alleged they are all know each other.
Sergeant Mick Ferwerder said police were appalled by the behaviour allegedly displayed by the teens and would continue to address youth crime in the region.
“Additional police sources have been tasked to the buying centre this weekend and Transit Protective Service Officers might be monitoring the transport hubs.
“This is in line with Victoria Police’s approach to detecting and disrupting youth gang behaviour, along with our focus on deterring young people from joining gangs in the first place.
“We know severe offending by youths considerably impacts group security, and we’re doing every thing we are able to to disrupt and forestall youth crime.”
