Senate inquiry into delays in SSS benefit claims process sought

A decision in search of a probe into the supposed delays within the processing of claims within the Social Security System has been filed within the Senate.

Senator Raffy Tulfo has filed proposed Senate Resolution 544 which duties the Senate committee on social justice, welfare, and rural improvement to overview the method of SSS in processing profit claims to enhance the effectivity of the present system, particularly within the means of retirement claims.

“The SSS [has] been receiving complaints from its members about the long and tedious process of claiming their benefits, particularly retirement  claims, which often result in delays and frustration,” Tulfo mentioned in his decision.

“It is the responsibility of the Senate to ensure that government agencies such as the SSS are efficient in providing services to the public, especially to its members who have contributed to the system,” he added.

In the inquiry, Tulfo proposed to debate the common time for members to obtain their advantages, causes for the delays, potential reforms that may be applied to enhance effectivity, feasibility of extending the interval for submitting  claims or chance of permitting members to file claims on-line, want for extra funding and manpower in SSS, and the potential institution of a monitoring system to trace the progress of claims, amongst others.

The decision was referred to the Senate committee on authorities firms and public enterprises final March 15.  —VAL, GMA Integrated News
