The Senate on Wednesday adopted a decision expressing profound sympathy and honest condolences on the demise of Migrant Workers Secretary Toots Ople and honoring her dedication as “lifelong advocate” of the labor sector and a “champion” of the rights and welfare of Filipino migrant employees.
“Sec. Toots Ople left an indelible mark for the passion she has exemplified while promoting and protecting the lives of the labor sector, most especially our migrant workers,” adopted Senate Resolution 83 learn.
In sponsoring the decision, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri acknowledged Ople’s ardour to deal with the abroad Filipino employees (OFWs).
“Even as Secretary of the Department of Migrant Workers, she preferred to lead a low-key life, committed to the unglamorous behind-the-scenes work of helping those most in need,” he mentioned.
“She wanted to commit the rest of her life for the passion which is taking care of OFWs. I really admire her for that, she becomes and inspiration, para sa kaniya hindi po ito trabaho, it was her passion to take care of OFW,” Zubiri added.
Although Ople served for a short while, Zubiri mentioned she left an indelible mark and her legacy will proceed to form the Department of Migrant Workers within the years to come back.
The Senate chief likewise confirmed “true leadership is not about power and authority but about kindness and compassion.”
Apart from Zubiri, Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva, Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, Senators Ramon Revilla Jr., Bong Go, Ronald dela Rosa, Pia Cayetano, Raffy Tulfo, and Robin Padilla gave their co-sponsorship for the adoption.
