Senator Sherwin Gatchalian is pushing for the creation of a constitution that will govern and strengthen the mandate of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

In an announcement on Saturday, Gatchalian stated having its personal constitution would give the ERC “more teeth” in addressing the power business’s points.

Gatchalian has filed Senate Bill No. 487, An Act Enhancing The Governance Structures Of The Energy Regulatory Commission. 

If enacted into legislation, the proposed measure would offer ERC with extra authority to manage varied stakeholders within the power sector.

“The birth of ERC came about because of EPIRA (Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001).
